Economic Botany: History of Plants and People Kass, Lee B. [1]. Landmarks and Milestones in American Plant Biology: The Cornell Connection. HARRIET Creighton, President of the Botanical Society of America (1956), emphasized that all researchers who study plants are botanists because "Botany includes the study of all plants." Creighton received her graduate training in Cornell's Departments of Botany and Plant Breeding, as did many of her teachers and colleagues. Cornell University faculty, staff, students, graduate students and post-docs made landmark contributions to American Plant Biology, and many were recognized by their election to the U.S. National Academy of Sciences, Section of Botany. A few also were recognized internationally with the Nobel Prize (i.e., J.B. Sumner, G.W. Beadle, B. McClintock). Other distinguished Cornellians are renowned for their contributions to the Botanical Society of America, and many were leaders in American botanical scholarship, and education. The landmarks and milestones of Cornell "botanists" will be presented. Log in to add this item to your schedule
