Systematics Section / ASPT Lee, Sangtae [1], Heo, Kyeong-In [1], Ko, Jeong-Eun [1], Lee, Chunghee [2]. A taxonomic study of the Korean Elaeagnus L. (Elaeagnaceae). TRICHOME and pollen morphology of about 40 populations from the Korean Elaeagnus (Elaeagnaceae) were studied using a scanning electron microscope. Results based on the comparative study of the floral and vegetative characters along with the trichome and pollen morphology were summarized as follows. Evergreen E. pungens, previously unknown in Korea, was discovered as a new record in Korea. Jeju Island has populations of E. unbellata that are different from those of the Korean peninsula, and should be described as a new taxon. E. glabra and E. maritima, and E. macrophylla and E. submacrophylla, should be regarded as the same taxa, respectively (the latter taxa should be synonymous with the former, respectively). The hybridization hypothesis on the origin of E. submacrophylla and E. nikaii was reviewed. It was concluded that the two species are not recognized as independent species and thus the hypothesis was not well supported.[c.e.:srb] Log in to add this item to your schedule
