BSA-wide Raven, Peter [1], Schneider, Edward [2], Dahl, William [3]. Honoring the Past – Building for the Future: A BSA Strategic Planning Discussion. IMAGINE a conversation among William Trelease, Charles Bessey and George Atkinson as they looked back over the last century of botanical discovery, and how the organization the formed in 1893 had evolved to support such activities. Now add in the voices of Margaret Ferguson, L. H. Bailey, Edmund Sinnot and Katherine Esau. What would they be saying about our efforts to support scientific research and education today? What would they suggest in planning for our future?
In 2001, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, the Botanical Society of America held a strategic planning meeting called “Deep Thought.” This session will review the progress on the plan developed by that group. More importantly, we will begin the process of strategic planning for the next five to ten years.
As a Society we have tremendous potential to support and elevate the research of our members. We are also in a unique position to merge plant research and the fundamental scientific processes involved into meaningful educational initiatives. Ensure your voice is heard, read the BSA’s mission and objectives, and join us in building for the future. Log in to add this item to your schedule
