Supporting Effective Teaching and Learning Bell, Jeffrey [1], Guenter, Cris [2]. MERLOT: Using multimedia online resources to support learning and teaching. THIS session will provide an overview of what MERLOT is, how to use it, and issues for incorporating online resources into your instruction. Examples of botany materials and teacher resources will be demonstrated. Challenges and successes incorporating online resources in K-university instruction will be discussed. Time for questions and clarifications will be included. Opportunities for becoming a peer-reviewer for MERLOT will be made available for those that are interested.
MERLOT (Multimedia Educational Resources for Learning and Online Teaching) is a free web-based resource designed to help instructors find online teaching and learning materials quickly and easily. Included in these resources, you will find databases, images, video clips, simulations, tutorials, animations, and other learning objects instructors have developed for use in their courses.
There are over 1000 biology learning resources and 130 of these are botany. At least 40 of the botany resources have been peer-reviewed for educational use. MERLOT also offers over 1000 links in Education for teaching instruction, curriculum development, and assessment.
